Week 4 recap
|
| You're reading this two weeks before the archive does. |
Houston, we laid the points
Five hosts across four shows laid the points with the Texans on Sunday. Houston scored 30 at home and lost anyway, 34-30 to a Cowboys team that got 189 yards from CeeDee Lamb. Meanwhile Even Money spent the week taking points with underdogs nobody wanted, cashed two four-team teasers and finished as the only show in the green. That makes two straight winning weeks for the show that mostly bets sides and totals. Boring is undefeated.
Every number below is through Sunday. Monday night gets its own short email tomorrow.

The $10 TailerUnits are how we keep score. Dollars are how it feels. Here's what you'd have if you bet $10 on every named pick from each show through Sunday. | Even Money | +$87.20 | | Action Network | -$13.60 | | Brandon's Playground | -$46.30 | | Sports Gambling Podcast | -$48.40 | | Sharp or Square | -$77.20 | | Anytime TD Show | -$147.50 |
Tail all six shows and you'd be down $245.80. Tail everyone except Even Money and you'd be down $333.00. Season to date, Brandon's Playground has still turned $10 a pick into +$473.30. Sports Gambling Podcast is at -$947.10. |
The Fade ReportSixteen times this week, two or more shows landed on the same side. Those pile-ons went 23-25 and lost 4.07 units. Fading every one of them at -110 went 25-23 and lost 0.25 units. The crowd lost, and so did everyone betting against it. The worst of it was the Texans, where four shows went 0-5, and the Broncos, where three shows went 0-5 in a 24-14 loss to the 49ers. The crowd got it back on the Raiders +4.5 at 6-0 and the Panthers +3.5 at 5-0. Carolina didn't need the points and won outright. Season to date, the pile-ons are 86-91-2 and down 12.95 units. Fading all of them is 91-86-2 and down 3.19 units. The only winner so far is the sportsbook. |
Week 4 AwardsHot Mic goes to Fezzik (Even Money) He went 10-5 for +5.59 units, his second Hot Mic in a row. The headliner was a four-team teaser at +240, and the Panthers, Raiders and Titans all covered. He bets like a man who has read the fine print. | | | Cold Mic goes to Gallant (Anytime TD Show) Nine touchdown picks, zero touchdowns, -9.00 units. Co-host Neiffer finished +2.00 on the same show, helped by a Daniel Jones score at +400. The end zone was open all day. It just wasn't open for Gallant's guys. | | | Bonehead Read of the Week goes to the officials in Broncos at 49ers It was 3-3 when Marvin Mims went down and the ball came out. The crew ruled it a fumble on the field, and replay let it stand. On Sharp or Square's Sunday night show, the hosts said even the TV rules analyst would have called him down by contact. The 49ers scored 21 points after that and won 24-14. Three shows went 0-5 on the Broncos. We grade the picks, not the refs, but this week we'll make an exception. | | | Longshot of the Week goes to Brandon He took Puka Nacua for 9 or more receptions at +400, with Nacua questionable when the show was recorded. Nacua played and caught exactly nine. Not eight. Not ten. That's a +4.00 unit rung cashed on the number. | | | Bad Beat of the Week goes to Sean Green (Sports Gambling Podcast) His Michael Wilson receiving ladder started at 100 yards and climbed to 130. Wilson finished with 95. Four rungs, four losses, five yards short of the bottom step. |
|
Still StandingNobody went to the graveyard this week. Sharp or Square rode the Vikings past the Dolphins, 15-10, in a game where Minnesota never scored a touchdown. Five field goals. Alive is alive, but that one took years off somebody's life. |
The Honest CornerFour weeks in, our Skill rating has one show leaning positive (Brandon's Playground) and two leaning negative (Sharp or Square and Sports Gambling Podcast). The other three are within what a bettor with no edge could produce. Even Money is up 7.50 units on the season, and that still sits well inside its no-edge range of -19.70 to +19.76. Two good weeks is a nice run. It isn't proof yet. |

Tonight's SweatFour shows have something riding on tonight, eight plays in all. Every host who took a side landed on the same one, and nobody is going against them. Two teasers have already won their Sunday legs and need one more. The touchdown show has three scorers and a longshot parlay that needs all of them. Hear the reasoning on Sharp or Square, Action Network, Sports Gambling Podcast and the Anytime TD Show. When the whole room agrees, somebody usually ends up with a story. |
