The crowd was wrong
Week 1 had one lesson, and every podcast learned it the hard way. The Texans, Panthers and Bucs showed up on nearly every card we track. All three lost. Meanwhile the Anytime TD Show ignored spreads completely, sprayed plus-money scorers across the whole slate, and walked away up 18 units. The sharpest minds in podcasting got beat by a show whose entire strategy is "somebody's going to score."
Here's how it shook out, plus a few things you won't find on the site.

Units are how we keep score. Dollars are how it feels. Here's what you'd have if you bet $10 on every named pick from each show.

Tail all five shows and you'd be up $79.40. Tail everyone except the TD show and you'd be down $105.90. One show carried the entire podcast economy on its back.

The Fade Report
Eleven times this week, two or more shows landed on the same side. Those pile-ons went 10-15. Betting against every one of them would have gone 15-10 and made 3.65 units.
The worst of it came on Bucs +3.5 and Texans +1.5, with three shows on each. They went 0-6 combined. The lone bright spot was Jets +1.5, where three shows went 3-0.
We'll keep a running tally all season. If fading the crowd keeps printing money, that's a story.

Week 1 Awards

Hot Mic goes to Gallant (Anytime TD Show)
He went 5-3 for +16.40 units, headlined by Jack Bech at +800. That's more than Sharp or Square, Even Money and Action Network lost combined.

Cold Mic goes to Koerner (Anytime TD Show)
He went 1-9 and lost 6.65 units, on the same show, in the same week, in the same format as Gallant. His show still finished 15 units clear of second place. Good co-host to have.

Bonehead Read of the Week goes to Sharp or Square
They backed the Browns three different ways in Jacksonville, with the spread at +8.5, a moneyline sprinkle at +320 and a teaser leg at +14.5. Cleveland trailed 31-0 early in the third quarter and lost 34-10. Not even six extra points could save it. The best part is that Chad had the Jaguars moneyline the whole time.

Graded the Graders goes to Even Money
Their own recap marked Ross's 49ers +3.5 as a loss. The 49ers won 27-7. We gave Ross the win. You're welcome, Ross.

Smartest Bet That Barely Paid goes to Sharp or Square
They grabbed the Steelers moneyline at -178 before it closed near -300. That's the kind of number sharp bettors dream about. It paid 0.56 units.

Ladder of the Week goes to Brandon
Chris Olave's 182-yard day cashed his whole receiving ladder. His ladders still finished slightly negative overall, which tells you how the rest of them went.

Survivor Graveyard
Here lie the Chargers picks of Doug and Fezzik. The Chargers were 9.5-point home favorites against Arizona. They never led and lost 26-14. Gone in Week 1.
Stuckey and Sharp or Square rode the Steelers past a Falcons team starting its third-string quarterback. It wasn't pretty at 20-13, but alive is alive.

The Honest Corner
One week is mostly noise. Our Skill rating has only one show leaning positive (Anytime TD Show) and one leaning negative (Action Network). Everyone else is within what a bettor with no edge could produce. Sharp or Square, for example, would need to land outside -8.44 to +8.46 units before their record says anything real. Week 2 is where this starts to mean something.

Worth a Listen This Week
Action Network. Two hosts, one game, opposite sides, and both of them mean it. The on-air argument alone is worth the download.
Even Money. Ross admitted they have so many best bets this week that it will either be very good or very bad. After Week 1, they're going big.
Sharp or Square. Chad and Simon can't agree on Monday night. Pick your side before the game and see who you trust.
Brandon's Playground. Brandon called one spread the easiest pick of the week. He also played a longshot he openly admits is a bad bet, just for fun. Respect.
Anytime TD Show. The Week 1 champs are back. Neiffer has a scorer he'd bet all the way down to +160, and Gallant has what he calls his flag plant play.
