Week 4 Friday
|
Doug cannot bet Cleveland. The rest of the room could.
Thursday night split the room. Stuckey made it Steelers or nothing. Doug looked at the same game, announced he cannot bet Cleveland, and then declined to bet Pittsburgh either. Simon told everyone to grab Browns +2.5 before it disappeared. Ross and Fezzik each teased Cleveland up to +8.5.
Then it got weird. Fezzik bet that the team that scores last would not win the game, at +220, which is a sentence you have to read twice. Brandon had been sitting on under 38.5 since last week. Sean went looking for a Ben Skowronek first touchdown at +10000.
You watched it. Monday's recap grades it. Until then, here's what to put on for the weekend.

Corrections Desk
We owe Sports Gambling Podcast a recount. Thursday's Monday Night issue said four shows had a play on the game and that the night went 6-2. It was five shows. Sean and Kramer had 17 Monday props that we had not finished grading, and they went 2-15. With those in, the night was 8-17.
That moves three Week 3 numbers we printed. Sports Gambling Podcast finished the week at -$257.80 at $10 a pick, not -$125.20. Tailing all six shows was -$523.40, not -$390.80. And the Anytime TD Show finished $135.30 ahead of them for the week, not $2.70. The site has had it right since Wednesday. The email was the slow one. Our miss.
Wrong door. Tuesday's awards post on X tagged Action Network's PR account instead of the main one. Sorry to whoever runs that inbox.

The Listening Guide
Action Network. Stuckey names his favorite bet of the week, calls it a poor teaser week, and then plays a teaser anyway. He also promises that if one particular team lets him down on Sunday, he will never bring them up again this year. Evan Abrams drops in with a sixth pick and a stack of trends. Listen
Sharp or Square. Tuesday's show walks all 16 games, and Chad and Simon land on opposite sides of five of them. Simon says one game would be among his biggest bets of the year if it were being played in Week 11. Chad has a pick that was almost Chad's Choice, which is a real category now. The Thursday show and a new live Sunday final five at 11 a.m. ET are still to come. Listen
Even Money. Ross and Fezzik share three best bets this week, and Ross doubles his stake on one of them in the middle of a sentence. Thursday's show has Ross calling in from a hotel in Cleveland, Dr. David Chao on the injury report, and Fezzik ending up on both sides of one game on purpose. Listen to Tuesday or Thursday
Sports Gambling Podcast. Two hours and thirteen minutes, every game, and the hosts split on five of them. There are two Close Your Eyes specials, which is exactly what it sounds like. Kramer's Dog of the Week walks in 3 for 3 on the season and up 3.50 units, and both hosts swear this is the last time they back one certain team. Listen
Brandon's Playground. The new episode is on the way. Brandon had a rough Week 3 and is still the only host in the building with a big green number, up 53.59 units on the season. One ladder is all it takes with him, so we would not sleep on it.
Anytime TD Show. Also still to come. The show is 21-70 on the season, which sounds worse than it is when the prices are long, and it sits 7.82 units down. Gallant is 9-18 and up 9.20 units. Touchdowns are a patient person's game.

Tale of the Tape
Action Network and Even Money are the two shows closest to dead even through three weeks. Between them that's 109 graded picks, and at $10 a pick they are $18.20 apart. Look closer and they are getting there in opposite ways.

Action Network is a coin flip on sides and makes its money on totals. Even Money wins on sides and gives it back on totals. Action Network's biggest single win was a two-dog moneyline parlay at +475. Even Money's were a pair of four-team teasers at +240 each. If the two shows ever traded notes, somebody would be up five units. Nobody tell them.

Every pick from all six shows gets graded at one unit once the games go final. Monday's recap has the $10 Tailer, the awards and whatever Sunday does to everybody's confidence.
